The Welsh Government has said it currently does now know the expected costs to remove the banned breast implants manufactured by PIP, France. It has however confirmed the money will be being taken from the NHS coffers.
Officals are currently unsure how many Welsh women have had the defective implants fitted which is the cause for the unknown costs.
Around about 40,000 Brittish women recieved PIP implants that were not safe for use as they did not meet the required compliancy and safety checks.
Health Minister Lesley Griffiths confirmed earlier this week that women affected by the scandal could have remedial surgery on the NHS if there are in clinical need of the operation. This is one step further than the UK Government, which has said it will only remove and replace implants from NHS patients.
A Welsh Government spokesman said: “At this early stage, our initial investigations suggest the number of women living in Wales affected is low"
